Load Cell Sensor

Benefits of BoltSafe load cell sensors

  • BoltSafe uses magnetoelastic technology, which causes the load cell sensors to be more compact (lower clearance) and less expensive than similar technologies such as strain gauges or piezoelectric sensors.

  • Measuring the bolt load is done across the entire surface of the ring, instead of using just a few pressure points.

  • Because the calibration is done in the load cell sensor, there is no need for calibration at the readout equipment’s end. Even when you’re switching between different readout methods, no recalibration is needed.

  • The sensors have almost no creep effect and are drift free. Using the washers in any possible circumstance gives a maximum deviation of 1% of the full scale after factory calibration.

  • BoltSafe load cell sensors send out digital signals only and can be used with very high and very low loads from 18 kN to 3000 kN.

  • They are water resistant and dust free because they meet the IP66 rating.

What is a load cell sensor?

A load cell sensor, also called a load cell or load sensor, is a force transducer. It is used for measuring force. The load cell sensor converts a force into an electrical signal that can be measured and standardized. Users can then read and record the acquired data. There is a variety of load cell sensors available in the market, and the inner workings differ based on the chosen type. Tension, pressure, torque and compression are some of the forces that can be converted, depending on the chosen type. The electrical signal changes proportionally when the force that is applied to the load cell sensor increases. The sensors are widely used in various industries, because they can measure weight and other forces very accurately. Wherever there is a demand for accuracy and precision, these cells are being used. The most common types on the market are strain gauges and piezoelectric sensors, but you also find pneumatic cells and hydraulic cells, for instance. The BoltSafe load cell sensors use magnetoelastic technology, so these don’t fit in any of the previously named categories. This technology measures changes in the magnetic field.

How does the BoltSafe load cell sensor work?

BoltSafe load cell sensors are made to measure and monitor bolt load in bolted constructions during assembly and over time. With this information, safety in the construction is enhanced and bolted joints are more dependable. Not knowing this information could cause bolts to come loose or even break! Gasket joints could start leaking and expensive check-ups or re-tightening procedures would occur. But not when using BoltSafe.

How is the BoltSafe sensor used? Place the load cell sensor on the non-driven side of a bolted connection, preferably under a nut. Tighten the bolt, so force is being applied. This will result in a minor deformation of the stainless steel washer. These deformations cause changes in electrical resistance, which are constantly measured by our sensors. This is the data we use to determine the bolt load at any given moment. BoltSafe load cell sensors can also be used in temporary construction, to make sure that the construction doesn’t collapse.
